PAPUA - The Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) is stepping up its efforts to support the acceleration of welfare development in Papua, guided by Presidential Instruction Number 9 of 2020. This directive outlines three key tasks for the TNI: ensuring security, assisting local governments in delivering essential services, and promoting inclusive communication with all stakeholders. To address ongoing security threats from the Free Papua Movement (OPM), the TNI has deployed specialized military task forces throughout the region. The priority is to create a stable and secure environment, enabling both residents and stakeholders to actively participate in Papua’s development.

Recent incidents, including the tragic murder of New Zealand pilot Glen Malcolm Conning, have underscored the urgent need for enhanced security measures. The TNI successfully conducted humanitarian operations, including the safe recovery of victims and the rescue of hostages, like Captain Phillip Mark Mehrtens.
Colonel Yogi Nugroho, Commander of the HABEMA Media Task Forces, stated, "Our mission is to ensure Papua remains safe and conducive for development. We are committed to working alongside the Indonesian Government and local communities to foster a peaceful environment."
The TNI's proactive approach aims to mitigate the impact of security disturbances, ensuring that welfare development initiatives can progress effectively. By focusing on collaboration and humanitarian efforts, the TNI is determined to contribute positively to the future of Papua.
